How to Make a Clock Timelapse Video With MIOPS Smart+

How to Make a Clock Timelapse Video With MIOPS Smart+

Making a timelapse video is both creative and fun. So, please try it at home. Shooting a single frame of video at a certain amount of time with the interval such as one frame per minute or second you choose are the basics of creating a timelapse. When you play the video backward, it will look like the time and events speed up and go faster.

You don’t need to have a studio or so much equipment to take a timelapse video. All you need is a DSLR camera, a subject, a composition, and a Smart+ to make the entire process so much easier. Before mentioning the behind-the-scenes of our shooting, let’s have a look at some quick tips about the timelapse video below.

Quick Timelapse Video Tips

Timelapses are silent movies in general. But of course, you choose to add some music after you finished shooting with video editing software to make it more catchy and appealing. Using a sturdy tripod will help you to create a more steady visual and will prevent your camera from moving.

We advise you to adjust the exposure and focus settings manually so take your camera into manual mode. In this way, nothing will change from one shot to another. Set the shutter speed to a 1 or 2-second exposure.

Turning off auto white balance also will be useful. Don’t forget to take a few test shots to calculate the exposure and set focus before the actual shooting.

Behind the Scenes of Clock Timelapse Photoshoot: Capturing the Hour and Minute Hands

For creating a timelapse video, we’ve made a timelapse photoshoot with Smart+ remote trigger using an old school alarm clock. Like we said before, you should definitely try this at home. It's easier and you will get beautiful results if you own a Smart+!

We prefer to use Smart’s Basic Timelapse Mode for this video shoot particularly and set the interval to 1 second. It means the camera takes a 1 frame photo for each second. In basic timelapse mode, the camera will shoot according to its exposure settings.

We set the frame count value to 3,600. Through this way, we were able to capture 3,600 frames, as a result after 1 hour we got 3,600 frames of photos. Then we downloaded the final footage to the Adobe LightRoom program.

After that, we edited the photos along the 24fps (frame per second) value to create a timelapse video. (24fps means you will have 24 frames of video footage per second.)

At the end of this process, we were able to capture and combine the movement of hour and minute hands' movements and finaly convert the 1 hour long video into a 2,5 minutes long video.
